SHORT BIO:
Born in Thessaloniki, Greece
Following a successful career as a photographer in Greece and her work for the 2004 Athens Olympics as an assigned photographer of the Athens Olympic Committee, Androniki moved to Tokyo in November 2004.
Since then she worked freelance on assignments for international magazines and newspapers such as Kathimerini (Greece), The Financial Times, The Sunday Times, The Independent and The Telegraph (UK), Der Spiegel (Germany), Marie Claire (Australia), K-magazine (Greece), Businessweek (US), Transit, Sotokoto, Shukan Asahi (Japan) etc. and for commercial clients such as Apple Japan and Airbnb. She also works on long-term photography projects, which are published in magazines or exhibited in galleries.
She is interested in the human condition and approaches her subjects with respect. She has been photographing many aspects of life in Japan, in Greece and other countries, that vary from everyday life, traditional culture, subcultures, the refugee issue in Greece or the aftermath of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan. She has also done a lot of portrait work and among the people she photographed some are famous, such as author Haruki Murakami and artist Takashi Murakami.
She has published a book on Otaku culture: "OTAKU SPACES", in collaboration with the writer Patrick Galbraith, and the self published book "UNDERWORLD". She continues working on new projects for publications and exhibitions. She has received the "Photographer of The Year Award" from the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand, and twice the "Documentary Photography Award" from the Humanity Photo Awards (HPA) in China.
In the last few years she has also been employing her visual language skills to creating moving images as a DoP.
Japan continues to be her main field but since 2015 she has created a second base in Athens - Greece where she spends some months every year working on projects in the wider area.
In her free time she enjoys learning aikido (2nd dan) and visiting art exhibitions.
