Exclusive Interview - Weslei Barba by Andreas Neophytou
- WHO is Weslei?
A Brazilian-based photographer born in São Paulo (1984), who has a degree in Social Communication in Advertising.
- WHAT inspires Weslei?
I gain a lot inspiration from everyday life stories, popular culture as well as the complexities of collective living, in large or small communities. The light used in cinematography (movies), is another great source of inspiration.
- WHICH is your favorite Photo book?
Algeria by Dirk Alvermann.
- WHEN do you click?
My photographic practice is centered on the 'peripheral culture' searching, through the photo documentary. My goal is to relate the urban space and its inhabitants. When I see those moments, I click.
- WHERE would you like to travel for a photo essay? WHY?
For sure, somewhere in the desert as inhospitable places always fascinated me. You know that gas station in the middle of nowhere, like the ones in the movies? (Bagdad Cafe, by Percy Adlon, 1987).
