Η iFocus Photo Gallery παρουσιάζει την έκθεση Polaroid φωτογραφίας EROS, στο πλαίσιο του 2nd Instant International Photo Festival, από τις 13 έως τις 16 Φεβρουαρίου, με συμμετοχές καλλιτεχνών από τη διεθνή φωτογραφική σκηνή, προερχόμενων από το open call που διοργάνωσε το περιοδικό iFocus, με την ευγενική χορηγία της εταιρείας Δαμκαλίδης Α.Ε., επίσημου αντιπροσώπου της Polaroid στην Ελλάδα. Η έκθεση επιμελείται η Δώρα Λαβαζού και Artists Liaison για τους ξένους καλλιτέχνες είναι η Ελευθερία Γιαννοπούλου.

Ο Έρωτας, στην αρχαία ελληνική σκέψη, δεν περιορίζεται στη συναισθηματική ή σωματική έλξη, αλλά αποτελεί θεμελιώδη αρχή της ύπαρξης και της γνώσης. Στη Θεογονία του Ησιόδου, ο Έρως εμφανίζεται ως μία από τις πρώτες κοσμογονικές δυνάμεις, προϋπόθεση της δημιουργίας και της τάξης του κόσμου. Στο Συμπόσιο του Πλάτωνα, ο Έρως νοείται ως έλλειψη και επιθυμία, ως κίνηση από το αισθητό προς το νοητό και από το εφήμερο προς το αιώνιο.

Η πολυσημία του Έρωτα, σωματική και πνευματική, δημιουργική και καταστροφική, ατομική και συλλογική, διατρέχει τη δυτική σκέψη έως σήμερα. Στο σύγχρονο πολιτισμικό πλαίσιο, η Ημέρα του Αγίου Βαλεντίνου λειτουργεί ως σημείο αναφοράς, υπενθυμίζοντας την ανθρώπινη ανάγκη νοηματοδότησης του έρωτα μέσα από τελετουργίες, σύμβολα και στιγμές αφιέρωσης.

Η έκθεση EROS προσεγγίζει τον έρωτα ως εμπειρία του παρόντος χρόνου, μέσα από το ιδιαίτερο μέσο της Polaroid φωτογραφίας. Η instant εικόνα, μοναδική και μη αναπαραγώγιμη, ενσωματώνει την ένταση της πρώτης ματιάς και την αδυναμία της επανάληψης. Όπως ο έρωτας, έτσι και η Polaroid συγκροτείται στη συνάντηση του τυχαίου με το αναγκαίο, του βλέμματος με το σώμα και της επιθυμίας με τη μνήμη.

Οι συμμετέχοντες καλλιτέχνες, προερχόμενοι από τη διεθνή σκηνή, διερευνούν τον Έρωτα όχι ως αφήγηση αλλά ως συμβάν, ως μια κατάσταση που αποκαλύπτεται στιγμιαία και ταυτόχρονα εγγράφεται στη διάρκεια. Η έκθεση προτείνει έναν χώρο στοχασμού γύρω από τη σχέση εικόνας και επιθυμίας, όπου ο αρχαίος φιλοσοφικός λόγος συναντά τη σύγχρονη οπτική εμπειρία.

2nd Instant International Photo Festival

iFocus Photo Gallery presents the Polaroid photography exhibition EROS, as part of the 2nd Instant International Photo Festival, taking place from February 13 to 16, featuring artists from the international photographic scene, selected through the open call organized by iFocus magazine, with the kind support of Damkalidis S.A the official representative of Polaroid in Greece. The exhibition is curated by Dora Lavazou, and Eleftheria Giannopoulou serves as Artists Liaison for the international artists.

In ancient Greek thought, Eros is not confined to emotional or physical attraction, but constitutes a fundamental principle of existence and knowledge. In Hesiod’s Theogony, Eros emerges as one of the primordial cosmogenic forces, a prerequisite for creation and the ordering of the world. In Plato’s Symposium, Eros is conceived as lack and desire, as a movement from the sensible to the intelligible, and from the ephemeral to the eternal.

The polysemy of Eros, at once corporeal and spiritual, creative and destructive, individual and collective, permeates Western thought to this day. Within the contemporary cultural framework, Valentine’s Day functions as a point of reference, reaffirming humanity’s enduring need to ascribe meaning to love through rituals, symbols, and acts of dedication.

The exhibition EROS approaches love as an experience of the present moment through the distinctive medium of Polaroid photography. The instant image, singular and non-reproducible, embodies the intensity of the first gaze and the impossibility of repetition. Like Eros itself, the Polaroid image is formed at the intersection of chance and necessity, of gaze and body, of desire and memory.

The participating artists, drawn from the international scene, explore Eros not as narrative but as event, as a condition that reveals itself momentarily while simultaneously inscribing itself within duration. The exhibition proposes a space of reflection on the relationship between image and desire, where ancient philosophical discourse encounters contemporary visual experience.
